2020
The Choice Angus Stud has settled well into the Upper Horton district after the big move in 2020 and the continuing good season has ensured that this years sale bulls are on track for our spring sale at the end of August.
This year’s sale will be held in the Central West again with an outstanding lineup of 55 registered yearling bulls with proven genetics from our female herd combined with the current elite sires of the Angus breed.
Choice Angus Stud History
In 1994, the Marriott family at ‘Inglewood’ Molong purchased 500 Angus commercial females from Karoo, Kennys Creek, Hazeldeen and Sparta studs. We specifically purchased cattle from tough climatic areas that had a long history of running Angus cattle.
In 1995 all the females were entered into Angus Group Breedplan as base cows and all progeny were identified and performance/pedigree recorded for the next 10 years.
In 2004 the top 100 performing females in the then current ‘Inglewood’ herd were selected as the foundation females of the Choice Angus stud. They were registered as APR females and since then have always been AI’d to industry leading Angus sires and backed up with Stud sires that we have purchased. The other females became our commercial herd.
2010
In 2010 Tim and Rebecca Brazier (nee Marriott) joined our partnership and Tim took over the role of stud manager from Rodney Williams.
We now have 230 Angus Stud APR females to calve this year and will have our inaugural on-property bull sale where 50 APR registered Choice Angus yearling bulls will be offered using the Helmsman auction system.
Alongside the stud we run 400 commercial Angus cows and grow the steers out to feeder weights which are then sold to JBS Swift and Rangers Valley Feedlot. We follow our steers through the feedlots to see how their marbling and weight gains are performing.
